Balance your chakras with food.
You only have one body to carry you through this lifetime so feed it right!
First of all, what are chakras and secondly, why do we need to balance them?
Chakras are energy systems located within the physical body that are invisible to the naked eye. We have 7 major chakra systems that relate to different parts of the human experience.
The first chakra is our root chakra which represents our foundation, feeling grounded, secure and supported. This chakra is associated with the colour red. It relates to survival, to our basic needs of money, food, water, shelter, and safety. When it is blocked, feelings of worry, anxiety, and fear can arise and can cause physical problems such as issues with the colon, bladder, lower back, legs and feet.
The second chakra is our sacral chakra responsible for our sexual and creative energies. This chakra is associated with the colour orange. When in alignment you experience feelings of abundance, pleasure and joy. This chakra is all about honouring and accepting yourself and your body, and expressing your creative side openly and honestly. When blocked you may be feeling unmotivated, uninspired, depressed, and fear, you may notice addictive-like behaviours arise.
The third chakra is our solar plexus, our power house, this is where our sense of individual power comes from, when this is chakra is aligned we experience strong willpower and commitment. This chakra is associated with the colour yellow. When blocked you may experience low self-esteem, lack of self worth, self-doubt and difficulty making decisions, and anger and control issues.
The fourth chakra is our heart chakra which represents the point where the physical meets the spiritual, it relates to our ability to give and receive love. It is associated with the colours pink and green. When in alignment we experience more compassion and love for ourselves and others. This chakra can close off due to grief, anger, fear, or trauma and by staying closed can keep us from opportunities of experiencing love and joy in our lives.
The fifth chakra is our throat chakra is all about communication, having the ability to speak your inner truth openly and honestly as well as fully listen to what others have to say. This chakra is associated with the colour blue. When blocked you may be experiencing trouble speaking your truth, difficulty staying focused, and worried what others think of you. This can cause illness related to the throat region, as well as pain and tension in the shoulders and neck area.
The sixth chakra is our third eye, related to our intuition, responsible for what's between you and the outside world, helping you to see the clear picture. This is where our wisdom and inner guidance comes from. This chakra is associated with the colour purple. When blocked you may struggle to receive and trust that inner guidance, trouble with remembering and learning new skills. You may find yourself to be more introverted and judgemental towards yourself and others. You may also experience depression and anxiety, as well as headaches, dizziness, and other brain-related health issues.
The seventh chakra is our crown chakra is our connection to the Divine, to our higher selves. When aligned you experience pure awareness, consciousness, and enlightenment. This chakra is associated with clear bright light. When blocked you may experience feelings of isolation and emotional distress. This particular chakra can be fully opened through yogic and meditative practices, or at certain times creating moments of spiritual connection.
So how does food help to open and balance your chakras?
Do you ever notice how you feel after having take out food compared to when you have a nice home cooked meal full of nutrients and goodness? Our body craves quality nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. We need consistent good quality food to fuel our body, to energise us, to strengthen our physical, mental, and emotional bodies... to feel GREAT!
Think about those mornings you struggle to get out of bed, what did you eat the day before? Those days at work when you're struggling to get through the day, your strength seems to have dissipated, your focus is non-existent, you're struggling to keep your eyes open... What are you putting in your body? Nutrient dense meals and plenty of water, or high carb based meals like pies, sausage rolls, processed meats, paired with energy drinks or soda drinks full of sugar? Maybe test the theory for yourself and you'll see what I mean...
Now, in the above descriptions of each chakra I mentioned that each chakra is associated with a different colour. Food that is also that colour will assist in opening your chakras. It won't do all the work for you, this isn't an overnight fix, a bandaid if you will... Aligning each chakra takes time and effort, which may scare you off but what's the other option? Would you prefer to continue experiencing the feelings and challenges that come with those closed chakras eventually leading to more serious diseases, illness, and physical pain? Choose wisely...
This can be a little overwhelming and a lot to take in so just take a few deep breaths, like I said this isn't an overnight fix, but being aware is the first step. There is so much information out there to help you, jump online do some more research, start making some small changes to your diet to start with, don't think you've got to change everything right this second, start with what you're comfortable with.
